Students, no matter what grade they are in, be it in college or in preschool, experience stress towards studying or at home, or worse at both. That is why schools are adapting mediation programs to help students calm down and de-stress. Actress Goldie Hawn’s MindUP program, focuses on teaching meditation that helps both teachers and students the art of meditation which is useful in doing better in school.
A few of the following are some of the benefits of having a meditation program in school:
Calms them down
Being in a quiet room, meditating, with no chaos or noise in sight and in hearing, helps students relax without actually sleeping in school. Make sure the room is meditation friendly – you have the candles, the immediate vicinity is away from places that students hangout such as the cafeteria and library, and that you have a meditation guru to guide the students in basic meditation. You don’t teach yoga, just a few, basic meditation exercises.
Gives them structure
Having a consistent meditation program gives students a feeling of stability because they know that they will do something on a daily basis. First thing is to make the meditation program voluntary, don’t impose everyone to join in. It will eventually roll over and in no time, every student will participate because they see that everyone else is doing it – talk about the bandwagon effect in it’s full positive mode.
Improves Emotional Intelligence
With meditation, students can achieve a sense of calmness combined with resiliency and a positive attitude – all of which make up a good level of emotional intelligence. And with this they can focus better and comprehend lessons in a more stress-free way. They will end up not hating to be in school or despise studying.
